Alex Butler
Producer
After ten years trading coffee in the City
of London, East Africa, North and South America as a commodity
broker, Alex Butler moved to Los Angeles in January 1988 to join
International Creative Management, subsequently becoming an agent
in the Motion Picture Packaging department. There he worked with
actor, director, writer and producer clients, putting together
international film projects and orchestrating screenplay sales.
After four years at ICM, Butler became Vice
President of Production and Acquisitions at the Los Angeles office
of Japanese production and distribution company Kuzui Enterprises.
There he was involved in the acquisition of numerous movies for
the Japanese market, including Luc Besson's ATLANTIS, and Bille
August's BEST INTENTIONS. At Kuzui, Butler helped set up and was
one of the producers of the feature film BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER,
a Kuzui/Sandollar Production for 20th Century Fox.
In 1995, Butler partnered with Fraser Heston
and Agamemnon Films. Together they have set up feature film projects
at different Hollywood studios, including GROUND ZERO, a missile
silo-based action thriller, and BRAM STOKER'S THE JEWEL OF SEVEN
STARS, an Egyptian archaeological thriller, both at Castle Rock,
as well as several independently financed feature projects. Alex
and Fraser wrote two drafts of THE JEWEL OF SEVEN STARS, which
continues in development at Castle Rock. Butler is also developing
a CHE GUEVARA project at Warner Brothers, starring Antonio Banderas,
to be directed by Michael Radford, and executive produced by Mick
Jagger.
In 1999, Butler co-wrote and co-produced the
CBS movie of the week SYMPHONY OF THE HEART, starring Amy Grant,
Keith Carradine and D.W. Moffet.
